Growth Hacker Marketing (Ryan Holiday) – http://goo.gl/8XbAzC
Transcript:
Hey, guys Phil here with Pro-Motions Marketing and today I wanted to talk to you about growth hacking. Before I start the video, however, I’m going to apologize for the poor lighting and the crappy video quality. We’re still putting together our video studio. So the next time you see my face it’s going to be in crystal-clear HD quality.
Now, back to growth hacking. Growth hacking is a very popular buzz word. You might have heard it online or from a friend, but it probably means something very different to every single one of you, which is why I created this video to ground your perceptions and formally introduce you to this concept.
In a nutshell, growth hacking is increasing your audience or your user base by any means necessary. This is achieved by thinking creatively, thinking outside of the box, being original, and generally just doing things differently to achieve a sort of viral growth. I’m right away going to apologize for using the word “viral” because that’s two buzz words in the video now.
But nevertheless, aside from the corny cliches, all growth hackers really do strive to achieve the exponential growth that has become virality. What I love about growth hacking, it’s not just about rankings. Growth hacking is not about website traffic. Growth hacking is about actual signups, actual conversions, and actual people, users, spending money with your company.
I really like this philosophy. I feel like all marketers, including even traditional marketers, should really think in these terms rather than the standard marketing KPIs of website traffic, funnel conversion percentages and so on, and so forth. This video is really just a tip-of-the-iceberg type of introduction to the concept itself. I’ll definitely be touching more upon specific strategies once we’ve finished up our testing and finalized our case studies, and written up our lab reports if you know what I mean.
Until then, you can learn a lot more about growth hacking by reading blogs like QuickSprout, KissMetrics, growth-hacker.com, and Ryan Holiday’s blog. You can also check out things at growthhacker.tv. It’s a very good resource, interviews with a lot of growth hackers from start-ups and larger-sized companies generally talking about their insider secrets and strategies for how they grew these companies to where they are now.
You can also learn a lot more about the enterprise application of growth hacking by picking up Ryan Holiday’s new book “Growth Hacker Marketing”. Ryan is the VP of marketing in American Apparel and he definitely embraces a lot of these quintessential concepts of growth hacking. I hope I’ve inspired you to do a little bit more research on this subject and generally just consider a shift in mindset from this traditional marketing KPI reporting to this sort of new user acquisition and growth-centric marketing mindset.
Until next time, I’m Phil. This is Pro-Motion’s Marketing Minute. The transcript is in the description below. Subscribe to our videos. Visit our website. It’s been a pleasure. Check you guys later.
